SPIRITUAL FORMATION
[Index of resources below]

Spiritual formation is the work of the Holy Spirit transforming us by deepening our relationship with God and others in and through our daily lives. Spiritual formation is nurtured formally through spiritual disciplines, corporate worship, and informally through families, work, civic, and interpersonal experiences.

Spiritual formation is a journey.  Liturgy is formative. Hymns and prayers are formative.  Works begun and ended in Christ are formative.  Classes are formative.  Reading is formative.  Even Coffee Hour is formative.  Ultimately, however, all formation is personal since your relationship with God is unique.  Many aids have been discovered, but it's not a matter of mere study.  You must live with what you learn and make it your own.

You cannot go wrong with the Book of Common Prayer or the Hymnal, since they accurately reflect the teachings of the Church.  The Rector or a qualified spiritual advisor can suggest books or practices that may be helpful to you.  Regular attendance at corporate worship keeps your progress integrated with the community, which is a vital Christian concept.

Below are listed prayers, practices, resources, and information that others have found useful.  Just remember the golden rule of Anglicanism:  You may do whatever you like as long as it doesn't impinge upon others.

    People of  St. Paul's!
Honor your Baptismal vows, and proclaim the Good News of God in Christ.  We need people to share spiritual formation resources.   Personal experience is important.  We're Anglicans, so your enthusiasm should be supplemented by study and thought.  Reviews of books in St. Paul's library are also needed.  You do the English, the webmaster will do the HTML, and a little editing on the side, if you like.  Contact Steve Olderr, olderr@ameritech.net.
