Statutes The Carthusians were founded by St. Bruno, and

they live in a monastery, spend most of their time in solitude and
silence.

most
literary and graceful rendering in modern English. Because
two-thirds
of all monastics are now women, this particular version of Doyle has
odd
numbered chapters written for men, and even numbered for women.
